Brrr! I opened the door, and I'm immediately blasted in the face with cold winter air making my hair blow all around my head. It was almost time for coats, gloves, scarves, hats, and maybe snow boots although there was no precipitation yet. The deep gray clouds suggested rain, sleet, or snow would be coming soon...a wintry mix as some meteorologists say.
The next several hours proved the cold front to bring not only frigid temperatures but also a blanket of ice and snow covering all that could be seen outdoors. It was a bright view out the window for such a gloomy looking sky. The reflection of sparkling flakes enhanced the sun's rays that I thought were lost behind the clouds.
A perfectly clean and beautiful landscape existed as far as the eye could see.
Soon the weight of the ice and snow made tree limbs bend and bushes fall to the ground. Power lines were going out all across the city, and we wondered if our heat would shut off next. We waited for roads to be cleared before we drove on them.
Then came the cold fog. The morning visibility was limited, and a new layer of frozeness was laid out over the hills that used to hold crops of beans and corn and throughout the small forests used as property lines for the land owners. All the branches were crystals touching the ground, but I could see the tree trunks’ brown bark through the jutted frozen layer.
What a gorgeous sight! I snapped several pictures especially when the blue jay and cardinal landed near my window. The bright blue and red really popped against the spiky ice. Seeing the trees like this instantly made me think of the shining in heaven and a song we used to sing in church. It’s called “He is Lord'' by MercyMe, and it goes like this:
“He is Lord
He is Lord
He has risen from the dead
And He is Lord
Every knee shall bow
Every tongue confess
That Jesus Christ is Lord”
God (through the weather) made His creation bow before Him this week. Rows upon rows of the tall trees were lowering themselves before His throne.
One day, all of creation will recognize who Jesus is and what He has done for us. Crowds of people will understand His majesty and will bow their bodies, minds, and souls before Him. God’s holiness perfectly covering all of humanity.
Justice will be served as God pours out His love on His people who believe in Him and follow Him forever. At the end, God gives people what they want. It’s your choice. If on earth you choose God, then He’s yours, always. If on earth you choose not God, then He’s not yours, always.
What will I choose while I'm living? I'm given a chance as I see the moments happening here in my land at this time.
Another day or two pass. The rain falls melting the snow and ice a little bit leaving behind dirty patches of white and speckled slush. The muddy mess covers my yard and lines the streets. How quickly the mind forgets God’s glory from last week.
The glitz is gone, and my selfish desires are back. For now, the spiritual battle rages on as I witness the fights on earth. I’m living in a world full of hate with people worshipping all things except the One they should be worshipping.
So, I try to focus my life on the Lord...to be the light in this dark world...to be raising my kids as little lights for Him…to be slow to anger when I want to lash out...to be sharing His love...to be giving Him glory...to be reading His word instead of watching the news...to be speaking to others about Christ and Him crucified...to be different than the world...to be using discernment to know when to be silent and when to speak...to be offering grace and forgiveness...to be noticing heaven moments in each day.
Phillipians 2:9-11 “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
