The ascension of Jesus was all over my life this week. It's the week after Easter, so it's not surprising for everyone to be talking about the resurrected Jesus returning through the clouds into heaven.
Every time I've spotted a cloud this week I've been reminded of the ascension.
In the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had full contact with God, but when they sinned they were separated from Him. How sad it must've been to walk with God in a lovely place then be kicked out forever!
For generations, the Israel nation tried to find the way back to God, but their great animal sacrifices always fell short. Their temple had a special holy area behind a curtain that only the purest man could even attempt to go into. Every year, the High Priest's mission was to enter the Holy of Holies and offer the perfect animal's blood to God as a way to make the nation right again.
Jesus came to earth to be with humanity, to experience life as a person, and to be the final sacrifice for our sins. Jesus came to get us back to God.
When Jesus died, the curtain that separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple was torn open showing us that God is with us again. Jesus came back to life and taught His followers about His life and the kingdom of God. Then Jesus' followers watched Him ascend into heaven as the ultimate High Priest, making Himself the connection for humanity to get back to God.
Clouds are so interesting. There are different types of clouds, different layers of clouds, different levels for clouds, different shades of clouds, and different sizes of clouds. They fly with the wind, release their weight on the earth, and cover the land for miles at a time.
When you see that white cloud in the air, think of the High Priest Jesus who was the perfect lamb sacrifice that connects us to God.
Hebrews 4:15 "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin."
