New Kid

3-22-2021

A new kid joined my daughter's class last week. My daughter went on to tell me how fun it is to be the new kid. She told me the only bad part about being new was that "you're so crowded all the time." This confused me a little. She explained that it was hard for her to even play with the new girl at recess because she was busy playing with other kids.

This week my daughter was the new kid for a day when she began a new class. Before that day, she had several questions. When do I go get on the bus? Who will be on the bus? Where do I go when I get there? Who is my teacher? What do those kids do all day? Will I fit in? Will I be behind? When do I come back to my school? Do I have lunch there? What about recess?

Her brother has been there, and he helped answer many of her questions. I haven't been there, so I answered some questions, but mostly I prayed for her to not worry, be brave, and remember God is with her wherever she goes. I gave limited advice like how to find an adult when you need to ask questions. By the morning of her first day, she was more excited and ready for the fun of meeting new friends and learning new things.

By the way, she had a great time and seemed to make friends with the other kids.

The entire situation ended up being a heaven moment for me in a couple of ways. First, I had to trust God with my daughter. I don't know everything that is going to happen. I can't be brave for her. I simply trust God to give her strength, wisdom, and courage for her first day. Also, this reminded me of going to heaven.

Heaven is new to me. What will my first day be like? I ask God several questions since he's been there, and He answers all that I need to know. I even ask heaven questions to people in authority who haven't been there. These teachers and preachers do their best to give me answers as well.

Thinking of heaven and keeping my mind on the kingdom of God is great for my spirit. Some things I imagine because they're unknowns. I don't know when I'll go there. I don't know everyone who will be there. Other things I dream about because I know a little about it. I know I'll walk the streets of gold. I know Jesus has prepared a place for me.

What will people ask me when I get there? Maybe they'll ask, "What did God do in your life? How did it feel to have the Holy Spirit living in you? When did you get saved? Tell me your Jesus story. Isn't God mighty? What do you think about God's love, grace, and perfect judgement? I know; He's so awesome! Do you want to go praise Him some more?"

I may get that nervous feeling because I've never been in the pure presence of God, but I can't wait to be in the crowd of all nations worshipping our Lord.
