Spring break is great! You get some much-needed rest from typical learning and studying. You enjoy vacations or trips to the zoo and Grandma's house. You may even get extra time outside to climb trees or go on a walk.
I got a date night with my husband. We were on a mission to switch the boys' rooms. Our 9yo and 4yo boys were sharing a room, but soon our 4yo and 2yo boys would be sharing that room. Our oldest was going to have his own room and our toddler was leaving the nursery.
I cleared out my youngest son's room (the old nursery), and now we needed to buy a loft bed with a desk so my oldest son could have more space in the smaller room that he would soon occupy.
We had been monitoring the bed that he wanted online. We were hopeful because the bed was recently in stock at our nearest store's location. However, on the day we finally had a chance to go to the store, it was out of stock.
We went to a nearby furniture store and found a slightly better bed at twice the price. Plus the desk under the bed was the wrong set-up. Another store had no good bed choices at all.
We gave up. Maybe we'll order a bed online. Maybe we'll try the first store again in a few weeks.
We decided to get food, but our desired location was now closed. We went somewhere else. I said, "This was a waste of time. We got a chance to be productive and we couldn't do that right."
My husband replied, "I had fun because I was with you. I would've been so upset doing this by myself, but since you were here, I had a good time."
The bed was not there, but I was. That's what made the difference for him. The place with my dessert was not there, but my husband was.
Being with someone is what matters. Support from someone and the influence of someone can really impact your mood and beliefs.
What's on the inside with our perspective on life matters. How we view the world can change based on how we choose to see things. Will this situation be horrible because I didn't accomplish what I set out to do? Will I have fun because I'm with people I like?
That's why Emmanuel is important. It's God with us. He's joining us and journeying with us. God is doing life with us.
When we spend time with God, he influences us in the best way possible. My time with him can never be wasted. I may not get what I want, but God can fix my heart to match his. It doesn't matter that the bed was not there when I realize what means more.
The women may have planned for Jesus' body to be in the tomb Sunday morning, but God had other plans. He quickly showed the women that he planned to raise Jesus from the dead. Maybe he'll show me his other plans for my life too.
Mark 16:6 "And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him."
